Day 2 of Chemo

Today had an awful start. Mel spent the morning throwing up. She was so sick. She received her final pre-transplant dose of chemo today. I talked to her in the afternoon and she was feeling lots better. She was given some prednisone and also some synthetic...dare I say...marijuana. She refused to take it when it was first offered during the last hospital stay because they told her some of the side affects. This time around, she was feeling so sick that the side affects weren't as big of a concern. She said that she has had some blurry vision in her right eye, but feels much better.

She called to talk about things for Kaden. She is still a terrific mom even from her hospital bed. She makes sure that Kaden has what he needs. He is one lucky little man.

I can't believe how close Mel is to transplant. This day felt so far away in the beginning of all of this. What a journey! I know there are still huge hurdles ahead, but this is a giant stepping stone.

You are inspiring all of us Mel. We love you! Keep fighting and staying strong.

We will be having a fast for Melanie on Sunday. If you would like to join us, please do. We have a strong testimony of prayer and fasting. We are all praying that the stem cells that Melanie receives will accept her body and do their job with few complications. She is heading into transplant with great odds! We think it is a miracle to have found a perfect stranger who is a perfect match, with her same blood type. I mean really, what are the odds? It is awesome!

We will report tomorrow on how Mel's body tolerates rabbit's blood and maybe explain why she is receiving it. They told us in the family meeting, but I can't remember.

Melanie, with work, travel, and trying to give Angie every opportunity possible to spend time with you, I haven't been able to visit you much, but I hope you know that I love you and that my heart is with you.

It has been fun having you stay with our family when you are out of the hospital. We are so glad that we are close and can offer our home for you.

Tomorrow is a big day for you and we are all thinking about you all the time. Please know that we will be thinking about you and praying for you. Hopefully our love and energy will somehow be reflected in your spirits and energy during and after the transplant.

We love you,

Steve
